Rendezvous with Indonesian Fashion Maestro

The rendezvous with Mr Harry Darsono was the finale of my 2014 research trip. Mas Harry, as he is known to his closest circle, is the only Indonesian designer who can claim that he has dressed numerous high profile women, most notably the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and the reigning Queen Rania of Jordan. Long before Batik is reinforced into a household name, mas Harry has released various Batik designs. Born in Surabaya and raised in London, his Batik designs reflect his eclectic tastes and exquisite grown up experiences. His designs are thoroughly exclusive that they are sold only at the world's leading boutiques and department store such as Neiman Marcus in US and Lotte in Seoul. When I told him that my thesis focuses on the legal protection of Batik, his immediate answer was, "Thank God! It's about time there is someone from the Government who pays deep attention on Batik and its future!" Stay inspiring dear mas Harry. Til we meet again in a near future!

My short-sleeved hand-stamped velvet coloured Batik shirt is designed by Sapto Hoedojo Batik in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Location: Paul Cafe and Pattiserie, Pacific Place, Jakarta
