Five Tips to Look Impeccable On A Fashion Week
“Loving fashion means
wearing it” - Karl Lagerfeld
Each fashion season,
celebrities and fashion royalty will look stunning in designers’ attire during
the weekly shows. The European shows for Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter
generally start off with Italian designers in Milan, followed by French
designers in Paris and then UK designers in London. American designers will
follow with widely covered shows in New York.
Each city may host fashion
week up to five or seven days. It is not impossible that there are ten shows
hosted daily by different designers or fashion houses.
Against this background, each
celebrity and fashion royalty, such as editors and bloggers, are competing with
one another to feature their most fashionable look.
Do you ever wonder how
celebrities and fashion royalty can look amazing during the fashion week?
Since I have been
privileged to attend a few fashion shows during the 2016 Mercedes Benz Fashion
Week Australia/MBFWA (http://mbfashionweek.com/australia) in Sydney, there are a few tips which I would like
to share, as follows:
1.
Plan your fashion week’s wardrobe long ahead.
As everything else in life,
it’s best to plan your wardrobe long ahead. We all wish that we could boss
around a stylist to shop and bring our outfits. Unfortunately, we are not
Jennifer Lopez and Rosie Huntington-Whitely who are pampered with round-the-clock
army of stylists and make up artists.
Thus, give yourself at least a week ahead of the
show. A week ahead would be adequate to prepare your daily look from head to
toe, from the dress or suit to shoes, bags and accessories.
2.
Choose your signature style or trend.
A friend of mine would like to
show off her brand new red biker jacket as her signature attire during fashion
week. Sadly, as she paired the jacket
with a colorful ballerina skirt on the top of ultra red bag and colorful wedges,
her jacket did not become the object of attention. Instead of achieving
“effortless” look, her look echoes “too much efforts”.
Avoid this problem by making a
decision on the trend or style that you wish to underline.
In my case, I always keen to
put a touch of Indonesian fashion and traditional textile in my fashion week
attire.
On the first day of MBFWA 2016, for example, I chose
to wear a monochromatic Batik track pants with my black cape. Since I want my
track pants to stand out, I paired it up with white shirt and black cape.
3.
DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT wear all your fashion items.
Sometimes we are tempted to
wear all our fashion items, particularly our latest fashion acquisitions, such
as that brand new Batik blouse from Iwan Tirta, or that newest Chanel’s Boy
bag.
Well, if you wish to look
above the rest, avoid putting on all your fashion items.
In my case, I chose to wear a
sleeveless coat crafted from Batik Jambi with black turtleneck jumper and
trousers on the second day of MBFWA. I would not wear the Batik coat with matching
Batik shirt and pants as it would turn my look as “over crowded”.
Imagine if someone would wear a polka dot patterned
outfits from head to toe, will she look out-of-this-world attractive or simply
too “out-of-this-world”? ;)
4.
Showcase your signature look and adopt a local style.
As I mentioned earlier, I am
passionate to showcase the unique fashion pieces and traditional textile from
my home country, Indonesia, while attending fashion weeks. However, I would
arrange my wardrobe in such a way that it would represent a trendy look and
complement local designer.
How could I do so?
Très simple. Let’s cleverly combine our Batik or Ikat
attire witth Australian or the world’s leading designers accessories. Follow my
steps by putting on a pinstripe Indonesian Lurik top from Lulu Lutfi Labibi with
an optical patterned pair of pants by Missoni.
5.
Most importantly, stay confident and smile!
We have dressed up to the
nines, the last thing we should do is looking charming and be confident with
our look.
Remember that nothing is more
alluring than a confident person who showcase a million dollar smile! J

Ps. Catatan
Kecil untuk Sahabats Fashionista dan Desainers,
Persiapan
Blogger terkenal seperti Bryan Boy
selalu mengedepankan Filipina sebagai negara asalnya, sedangkan Chiara Ferragni
blogger “The Blonde Salad” sering mengenakan karya Gucci dan Fendi, rumah mode dari
negeri asalnya, Italia. Sebagai warga negara Indonesia, mari bersama kenakan
busana karya desainer Tanah Air. Banyak opsi busana yang menarik seperti celana
jogging Batik karya Novita Yunus atau lurik karya Lulu Lutfi Labibi. Kemajuan
industri mode di Eropa dan Amerika dan kini Australia tidak lepas dari etos
kerja dan sikap “persistence” para pelaku mode-nya yang selalu tampil
mengenakan karya perancang negeri asalnya. Sesuai dengan kata Karl Lagerfeld,
desainer Chanel, jika anda cinta fashion, maka anda perlu mengenakannya. Sama
juga dengan suatu hubungan asmara, apa gunanya kita ungkapkan cinta tanpa
implementasi lebih lanjut? After all, actions speak louder than words. Kita
semua mencintai busana Indonesia maka mari kita buktikan dengan bangga memakai busana
Indonesia kapan saja dan dimana saja, termasuk pada peragaan busana di luar
negeri. Let us now be stylishly
persistent in showcasing the very handsome pieces of Indonesian fashion.
