Indonesian Fashion Diplomacy Icons: Foreign Vice Minister Dr AM Fachir & Madam Yasmin Fachir

In October 2014, H.E. Mr Abdurrahman Mochamad Fachir was officially sworn in as Vice Minister of Foreign Affair by President Joko Widodo. Mr Fachir, in his daily duty assisted Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Madam Retno Marsudi, in achieving main priorities of Foreign Ministry, including to protect Indonesian citizens and uphold Indonesia’s sovereignty as well as to play a leading role in regional and international organization.

As the Vice Minister, Mr Fachir is also tasked to chair the Economic Diplomacy Taskforce. The Taskforce aims to promote trade, tourism, investment and development cooperation as pillars of Indonesia’s economic diplomacy. Economic diplomacy also includes the creative industry, including Indonesia’s fashion and culinary industry.

Bapak Fachir, as his close circle of colleague and friends call him, is a career diplomat who entered the Foreign Ministry more than 3 decades ago. During the administration of President Yudhoyono, Mr Fachir was appointed as Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt and later to Saudi Arabia. Previously, he served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia. Ambassador Fachir once served as the official interpreter to President Megawati Sukarnoputri during her administration. His Excellency, who is fluent in Arabic and English, was graduated as Doctor of Philosophy in University of Gajah Mada in 2015. His thesis focused on 60 years of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Egypt.

Together with his beloved spouse, Madam Yasmin Fachir, the couple is known as the icons of Indonesian fashion diplomacy. Both of them are relentless in promoting Indonesian fashion throughout their engagements as they are rarely seen without dressed up in Indonesian traditional textile.

As a tribute to the Vice Minister and Madam Fachir, JET has specifically chosen several photos which capture the couple either on official assignment or less formal event. Scroll through the photos and take a look at how Vice Minister and Madam Fachir dazzle charmingly in Indonesian Batik and Wastra.

Ps.
