Happy CNY From Sydney Gong Xi Fat Choy

Gong Xi Fat Choy!

Happy Chinese New Year to my dear friends and families.

Chinese or Lunar New Year, popularly known as CNY, is no longer an exclusive event to the Chinese or Chinese-descendant community.

Currently, CNY is celebrated in almost every corner of the world, from Jakarta to New York and from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

Sydney is not an exception.

With thriving Chinese descendant communities who accounted for four percent of Australia’s population and increasing Chinese tourism, Sydney is the hub of Chinese community in the Australia and Pacific region.

In 2016, JET gets to witness a festive CNY which is not only seen by the Lion Dance performance in the bustling Hay Market area, a.k.a. Sydney’s famous China Town, but also by the Chinese lantern and statues erected in the elegant promenades in Martin Place and Pitt Street Mall.

Fashionistas, in addition to Christmas and Easter, CNY is also celebrated by leading international fashion brands. From Burberry to Bottega Veneta, Christian Louboutin to Prada, all provide impressive window display and limited edition items to mark the year of the Monkey.

But the highlight for this year’s CNY in Sydney is on the fashion industry.

As a part of City of Sydney’s official 2016 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival, David Jones, Australia’s most luxurious department store, curated a unique collection in celebration of the CNY. This collection features Chinese designers fashion from thirteen of China’s most exciting ready-to-wear labels and three accessory collections including jewellery and sunglasses. This collection will be presented on the 11th of February 2016. Be certain that JET will be among the first viewers to review the collection. J

These all stand as testament how the Chinese culture is widely spread and deeply respected among all nations and citizens of the world, including Australians.

Needless to say more, scroll through following photos of mine to see the glorious celebration of CNY

As we draw a close to the year of Goat –JET’s Chinese horoscope-, let us give thanks to God for His blessings to us in the previous year. Also, may the year of the Monkey continues to brings us prosperity and longevity.
