Madam Ani Yudhoyono’s Fashion Diplomacy in Sydney
As the First Lady of
Indonesia for a decade (2004-2014), Madam Kristiani Herawati Yudhoyono, well known
as Ibu Ani, has been an active promoter of Indonesian fashion for a long time.
From the very first moment
she accompanied her husband, HE Dr General (ret) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,
taking the oath as Indonesian Sixth President in 2004, she has shown her deep
commitment in introducing Indonesian traditional textile to the world.
During her tenure as the
First Lady, Madam Yudhoyono tirelessly fore fronted Indonesian traditional
textile in Indonesia and abroad.
From wearing Batik cloth
and black kebaya to attend State Dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in London
to displaying a Batik coat while visiting Hawaiian Garden hosted by Mrs
Michelle Obama (FLOTUS) in Honolulu, Mrs Yudhoyono is seldom seen without her
favorite ensemble crafted from Batik, Ikat, Songket, Tenun, etc.
Since 2014, she has
regained her life as a civilian, yet her dedicated passion for Batik and other
Indonesian textile stays and even moves forward. Indonesians and foreigners
would line up in front of the venues where she would appear, only to catch a
glimpse of her chic look.

Nb. Catatan Kecil untuk Sahabats Desainers dan Rekans Fashionista
Indonesia, kita semua perlu menjaga komitmen kita bersama untuk mengedepankan
kain tradisional Indonesia, termasuk Batik, Ikat, Songket, Tenun, dll.
memajukan kain tradisional Indonesia.
Dear Ibu Ani Yudhoyono,
stay promoting Indonesian fashion diplomacy through your elegant attire and
warm personality.
Ibu Ani is truly a Batik icon
from The Emerald Archipelago.

presentation by President SBY.
"Who dares win..
Maybe we have a dream, or an aspiration..
But we never have courage, and we do not dare to take a step..
Then we will go nowhere, and we will become no one".
