JET’s coverage on Alexander McQueen : a fashion prodigy who is gone too soon…
Today JET decides to honour one of the
greatest talents that the world’s fashion industry has been fortunate to
witness. Alexander McQueen. It is still fresh in my mind how I used to save and
save to get one skull scarf. Mmmh, where have I put it? Gotta find that
timeless skull head B&W scarf! It never fails to turn heads every time I
put it on.
McQueen was mostly remembered as one of the youngest designers to achieve the title "British Designer of the Year", which he won four times between 1996 and 2003; he was also awarded the CBE and named International Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designer in 2003.

In 1997, I was
exceptionally interested with his show for Givenchy. When the divine Naomi
Campbell strutted down the catwalk with a gold colored dress topped with a horn
headpiece, that was it!. McQueen has nailed the IT show in Paris Fashion Week.
McQueen began a new venture on 2000 as the Gucci Group's acquiring 51% of his company and McQueen's
serving as Creative Director. Plans for expansion included the opening of
stores in London, Milan, and New York, and the launch of his perfumes Kingdom,
followed by, My Queen.
In 2005, McQueen collaborated with Puma to create a special line of trainers for the shoe
brand. I am sooo in love with not only the
striking color but also comfortability of his sneakers that even though mine is
a few years dated now and the color is fading, I continue to wear them!

In 2006, he launched McQ, a younger, more
renegade lower-priced line for men and women.
McQueen was the first notable designer to participate
in MAC's promotion of special cosmetic
releases by designers. The collection, McQueen, was released on 11 October 2007
and reflected the looks used on the Autumn/Winter McQueen catwalk. The
inspiration for the collection was the 1963 Elizabeth Taylor movie Cleopatra, and thus the
models sported intense blue, green, and teal eyes with strong black liner
extended Egyptian-style. McQueen handpicked the makeup.
Fashion prodigy!!!! Too bad he is gone too soon...
