An Indonesian-Born Shines In Sydney Fashion Week!!!

In 2013 Edwina Mc Cann, a.k.a. Editor-in-Chief of Australian Vogue, called him as “the one to watch” among Australian designers.

His name is Haryono Setiadi.

Born and bred in Jakarta until he was 20 years old, he is the only Indonesian-born designer ever to be selected for his individual show in the Sydney’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia for a few years now. While there are several other fashion weeks in Australia, the MBFWA remains one of the most prestigious fashion event for the past twenty years as it has always introduced the country’s newest creative forces in the mode industry.

Haryono spent his initial days by working to Akira Isogawa, another Australian with Asian descent who is a well respected senior designer. These days are long gone as his signature creations have now been worn by Hollywood heavyweight and Australian sweetheart such as the American famed director Sofia Coppola and Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins.

So, what is the key to his internationally acclaimed status?

1.     Innovative fabric
2.     Mixture of pastel and monochrome colors
3.   This may sound cliché, but most important of all, beautiful and wearable fashion pieces that 21st century women can relate to!

What I fancy about Haryono and his creations is that he has the true ability in creating a total modern look without leaving his Indonesian roots. Perhaps this is due to the close relationship that he shares with his Jakarta-based sisters.

I am proud to say that Haryono is the living testimony that anyone regardless of their origin can make his way anywhere in the world as long as he keeps on believing in himself and doing the very best in his chosen path!

Stay inspiring Haryono and keep on beautifying Australia, Indonesia and others.
